When Jesus performed the miracle of a great catch of fish, Peter fell to his knees and exclaimed, “Lord, please stay away from me; I am such a sinful man.”
Jesus replied, “Do not be afraid. From now on, you will be catching people.” And as soon as they reached the solid ground, Peter and his companions left everything and followed Jesus.
We often think that God blesses only those who have a proper communion with Him, but this is not always the case. His love and mercy surpass our understanding.
Peter was not yet a disciple and was blessed with tremendous provision from God. His first reaction was shame; he knew what he was doing with his life and never would have imagined receiving an “undeserved reward” from heaven.
His second reaction was fear; he perceived a “Punishing God” and therefore distanced himself. He lived in the vicious cycle of needing the Most High and, at the same time, being afraid to approach.
That’s why Jesus liberated him by showing him His incomprehensible love. Every fish that filled the nets showed Peter how much God loved him, regardless of his condition.
Do you know what his third reaction was? He decided to break free from his vicious cycle and follow that incomprehensible love, the love of Jesus.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man.”
— Luke 5:6-8
