When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, following a star that stopped over the place where the child was.
Upon entering the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary, and bowing down, they worshipped him. Opening their treasures, they presented him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Who were the Magi that came from the East? The word “Magi” originates from the Persian language and means priest, referring to a caste of Persian or Babylonian priests who studied the stars in their quest to find God.
Another detail to note is that they no longer found the child in the manger but in a house, suggesting a different time from the shepherds’ visit.
Their unusual gifts for a child were deeply symbolic. Gold represents kingship. Frankincense was used in worship, and myrrh, a valuable perfume, was also used for embalming the dead.
There lies the child Jesus, destined to be king, worthy of worship, and who would die for the forgiveness of our sins.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
