Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, it was discovered that she was pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, decided to divorce her quietly.
However, an angel appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Both Joseph and Mary were not people of high status, but they were extraordinary in their humility and obedience.
Mary accepted the Holy Spirit’s work, risking her honor and facing the possibility of being stoned. Joseph named the child Jesus, meaning “the Savior,” risking accusations of rebellion against the empire.
Both of them sacrificed their lives and reputations. God made no mistake in choosing them for this extraordinary event.

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
