While Jesus was with His disciples, Peter said to Him, “Even if everyone else abandons You, I will never do so.”
And the Lord replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter. Tonight, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you know Me.”
“No,” Peter exclaimed emphatically. “Even if I have to die with You, I will never deny You.” And the others vowed the same.
But when Jesus was arrested, all the disciples fled, and Peter ended up denying the Lord three times.
It was easy for the disciples to make promises of loyalty during peaceful times. Yet in the middle of the crisis, all of them turned their backs on the Savior.
The same is true for us: we strive to be faithful to God, but in times of stress, we will find out who we truly are. This is why Scripture says, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
Let us use peaceful seasons to strengthen our faith, ground ourselves in God’s Word, and clearly recognize our weaknesses.
Then, when crisis comes, we will be better prepared to face it.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will disown me three times.”
But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.”
