Jesus spoke about those who used their spiritual positions to feed their vanity and personal ego.
“Beware of the teachers of the Law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have the most important seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets.
They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
This is the case of teachers of the Scriptures who constantly seek people’s approval to be happy. They do not love people; they only use them for their own interests.
This is in no way a service to God. Jesus redefined leadership when He said: “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who exercise authority over them call themselves benefactors.
But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves” (Luke 22:25-26).
Let us be cautious of becoming proud in our spiritual roles. The Lord has given us the responsibility to guide others, protect them, and lead them toward God’s will.
We are not called to be admired, but to wash the feet of the disciples.
