When Jesus was in Capernaum, He taught on the Sabbath days. And the people were amazed at His teaching because His word carried authority.
There was a man there who had an unclean spirit, and he cried out in a loud voice. The Lord rebuked him and commanded the spirit to come out of him. And the demon left.
Everyone was astonished, and they spoke among themselves, saying, “What word is this, that with authority and power He commands unclean spirits, and they come out?”
On another occasion, in the city of Jerusalem, He was asked the same question. The chief priests and the elders of the people said to Him, “By what authority do You do these things? And who gave You this authority?” (Matthew 21:23).
The truth is that everyone, even His enemies, recognized the authority Jesus had to preach and teach about the kingdom of God, heal the sick, and cast out demons. But they did not know the source of this authority.
The Lord answered this question only in front of His disciples, at the end, when He said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-19).
Christ’s authority comes from the Most High, and now it has been delegated to His followers. Let us share the gospel, pray for the sick, and proclaim freedom to the captives.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!” And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.”
— Luke 4:36-37
