In front of the crowd, Jesus said, “This wicked generation keeps asking for a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of Jonah.
What happened to him was a sign for the people of Nineveh, indicating that God had sent him. What happens to the Son of Man will be a sign for the people of this time, confirming that he was sent by God.”
Many sought Jesus for His miracles; everyone wanted a remarkable sign, but Jesus would only give them what they truly needed: The sign of Jonah.
Jonah was an Old Testament prophet sent by God to a city to promote repentance. The prophet refused to go and, fleeing in the opposite direction, ended up swallowed by a great fish, where he remained for three days.
There, he repented and prayed to God. The fish expelled him from its belly, and he went to the city of Nineveh with the Creator’s message. The entire city was moved, repented, and was saved.
This is the sign of Jonah, the only sign Jesus would later give to all of humanity: The Savior also spent three days in darkness, experienced death, and then was raised by God in front of his entire generation. It is a historical fact, the remarkable sign that Jesus is the Lord.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“As the crowds increased, Jesus said, “This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.
For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.”
— Luke 11:29-30
