Noticing how the guests were choosing the best seats at the table, Jesus said to them: “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit in the place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you has been invited by him, and the one who invited both of you comes and says, “Give this person your seat,” and then, with embarrassment, you will begin to take the lowest place.”
There is an inner desire in all of us to be recognized by others. We would like everyone to know the good things we do and the achievements we have obtained.
Thus, figuratively speaking, we would all like to take the first seat at the table and be distinguished for our work. Unfortunately, when this doesn’t happen, we distance ourselves from the group, become resentful, and even envy those who are praised.
Jesus added: “Rather, when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say, “Friend, move up to a better place.” Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.
For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Let us follow Christ’s example: The crowds wanted to place Him on an earthly throne as king, but He renounced the praise. He preferred silent service and to die for all of them. For this reason, God exalted Him to the highest place, and now He is seated at the right hand of the Almighty.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, “Give this person your seat.” Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.”
— Luke 14:8-9
