Jesus drew the attention of the religious leaders, saying to them, “What sorrow awaits you, Pharisees! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore justice and the love of God. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.”
In those times, the devout were meticulous in observing the smallest details of their religious practices. It was a race to win the applause and admiration of others. This is very human and appealing.
Certainly, external displays determined a person’s level of devotion. The garments were grand and pompous, concealing what lay within the heart.
With the arrival of Jesus came a new way to measure spirituality. Now, it was more important to live a just and loving life before, during, and after each congregational event. We no longer need to impress others; now, we can enjoy God’s approval in private.
Focus on being a just and loving person at home, in your community, and at your workplace. In this way, the radiance you may bring to the Church will be merely a reflection of what happened throughout the week in your intimacy with God.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.”
— Luke 11:42
