After Jesus’ death, his disciples no longer knew what would happen. Would the Savior fulfill his promise to return to them? Or were their days as disciples over?
In the midst of their sorrow, they went fishing in despair. They spent the entire night without any success.
As dawn was breaking, Jesus appeared on the shore, but they did not recognize him. He asked them, “Children, do you have any food?” They answered, “No.”
Then he told them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
Then one of the disciples said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” And Peter put on his clothes and jumped into the sea to get to Him.
Jesus had appeared in the midst of their misery and showed them clearly the difference between doing things in despair and seeking sustenance with God’s help and blessing.
It is difficult to battle against despair. Life’s circumstances tend to overwhelm us, preventing us from seeing the Lord, seated on His throne, working in our favor.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”
— John 21:5-6
