Once, Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples approached him and said, «Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.»
How beautiful it is to know that Jesus did not impose his ideas on anyone. When it came to prayer, he dedicated special moments to be with the Father in a natural and spontaneous way. He longed to be with God and greatly enjoyed being with people during their celebrations.
The Savior was never a mystic isolated from the people. He was very simple in his relationship with God and very sociable in his interactions with his family, neighbors, and friends.
In this way, he presented himself as an example of life. This is why he was admired by the crowds. If anyone wanted to pray like him, they could ask him to teach them. The Savior never imposed a set time for prayer. He greatly respected each person’s personal, individual, and genuine relationship with God.
If he was so natural and spontaneous, why do we want to change that? At what point did our daily interaction with God become systematic, religious, and rigid?
Let us return to the time of Jesus, embracing the Father like free and authentic children. We don’t have to impress anyone. We only have one life to enjoy with God.
