At noon, the scene of the cross was enveloped in darkness until three in the afternoon. Then, Jesus cried out with a loud voice: “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
The cry of loneliness from the Savior has been a mystery for centuries. Why did God withdraw during Jesus’ agony? Some atheists have said that in that cry the Savior acknowledged that He had failed in His purpose.
The truth is that, upon scrupulously reviewing the account, Mount Calvary was filled with dense darkness in the middle of the day. It was the sin of all humanity gathered in the death of Jesus.
God does not tolerate sin, and that is why He withdrew for a moment. The Savior had an intimate communion with God and perceived the divine withdrawal.
Finally, the Creator accepted the sacrifice for sins and on the third day raised Jesus from the dead. The era of forgiveness had begun.
From that afternoon, we understood that God cannot coexist with sin; but He was able to give His own Son to reconcile us with Him.

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
— Matthew 27:45-46
