Jesus was preparing to go to Jerusalem, but on the way, he had to pass through Samaria, a town that was not hospitable to Jews.
Despite this, he sent messengers to that region to prepare a place for him to rest. However, the people of Samaria did not receive them and refused to accommodate them.
Seeing this, his disciples James and John said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven, as Elijah did, and consume them?”
Jesus rebuked them because they were appealing to the power of God to satisfy their selfish passions and desires for revenge.
God never lends himself to obey the orders of his human creatures, much less to curse and harm others.
If we are ever rejected or suffer injustice, what is incumbent upon us is to refer the matter to God so that He may act in wisdom, justice, and love.
“For the Son of Man, Jesus, has not come to lose the souls of men, but to save them.”

VERSE OF THE DAY:
“When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them. Then he and his disciples went to another village.”
