And Jesus, carrying his cross, went out to the place called Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, with the Lord in the middle.
Knowing that everything was already accomplished, the Savior said, “I am thirsty.” So they soaked a sponge in vinegar, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips.
When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
The Lord’s sacrifice had been completed in a satisfactory manner. God’s requirements for the salvation of humanity had been fully met.
Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. His life on earth had been blameless. He didn’t deserve to die, but he did so for all of us.
That’s why he said, “It is finished.” There is nothing more to be done. Therefore, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Let’s renew our commitment to the Savior. His death and resurrection were just the beginning for many to transition from darkness to his wonderful light.
We are his disciples and always carry in our bodies the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our bodies (2 Corinthians 4:10).
